Hi. My name is Matt Scott. So, listen: I’m writing a Beginners Guide to Smoking Cessation (beginnersguide.com/smoking-cessation) for the folks at Beginners Guide, which is basically some general advice, some scientific information, a lot of stuff on nicotine replacement, etc. and my own little online journal, detailing my efforts to quit smoking. I’m still working on both the journal and all the information/advice, but I was wondering if you’d be kind enough to add a link to us from your site, just to provide a bit more visibility to the work and, perhaps, a bit more impetus for me to keep it up. It might be of help to your readers, it might not. I don’t consider myself a professional in any sort of matter, but I do have a lot of experience with quitting smoking, so I think I have a lot to bring to the discussion.
If not, that’s cool. But, I thought I’d at least check.
Again, thanks for reading over my email, and hopefully you can at least check out what I’ve done so far.
Yours truly,
Matt Scott

Only just found your Blog - am now 6m 3w 3d into my quit so I imagine about the same as you?
I am in Western Australia (heaven on earth) and have really been doing well - went on “Cognitivequitsmoking” with Steve, which I found assisted lot when I was craving, feeling “lost” and just plain not “NORMAL” plus “quitsmokingonline” with John which helped me to accept that the cravings I was getting were actually good and I should allow them and not resist. “To resist is to persist” … HOWEVER, this far down the track am starting to get really irritable and tense over the stupidist things - please tell me are you finding this??
The craziest thing is that I really, really DO NOT want to smoke again, I actually feel disgusted at the thought! BUT… how do you get rid of the irritation??
Anyone who has experienced this, and coped please, can you tell me HOW?
Thanks in anticipation - Jen

Hi everyone, Only 3 days until Christmas I still cannot believe it. Still smoke free as of October 4. I do get cravings at times, sometimes bad, I just do anything to keep my mind busy. I wish Everyone a very Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays to those who do not celebrate Christmas. Estelle

I know how much I valued Maddie’s help so I think a link to “Tribute to Maddie” would be a great addition to this blog.

Great blog and thanks for linking back to Tobacco-Free Kids.
I found your post about Camel No. 9 earlier this summer and wondered if you had seen the latest article last week.

RJR continues to market their products to teen girls and women, but we’re fighting back. The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids developed a few ways to take action. Please visit http://www.whatareyousmoking.org for more information or to take a stand against the tobacco industry.
Keep up the great work!

Hi Adrienne,
I did not see the latest Camel .9 article - but I will certainly read it today! I will also add the link above to this blog and the CF main news site.
I hope to be more helpful to TFK during the fall of 2007 - thanks for stopping by!
Cheers,

Talk about propaganda and bias, this site is full of it, nobody can argue that smoking is not a bad habit, however, you need to understand that it’s a free choice and nobody has the right to try and take that choice away, i smoke because it’s what i want to do, not because tobacco companies want me to, i knew the risk when i started and did it anyhow, you act like you are without any bad habits or poor decisions and that any person who chooses to smoke is a low life, get a life and understand that it’s MY poor choice to make and NOT yours to make FOR me, I’m not mad that they tried to tax me for measure 50, I honestly don’t mind paying a little more, I’m mad that they think they can try and stop me from doing something that is MY right to do if i want to do it, it’s about people who want to push their own opinions on me in order to bully me into not smoking, that’s where my issue is.

My issue is with helpless children who do not have any rights because they have to breathe secondhand smoke, or they have to suffer the consequences of generational smoking.
I strongly believe that tobacco companies owe society for their deceptions - my father-in-law smoked his entire life and tobacco ended his life with smoking-related diseases of COPD, Emphysema, and lung cancer.

^^Then make THEM pay, not the consumers who are addicted to the product, that tax was not a tax on them, it was to be a tax on me.

I am also looking at this situation as an addictive process because it does cause changes in the brain and skew DNA.
Anything that is going to curtail use of this drug, I am willing to support, even if it is a measure to tax tobacco.
Addiction to tobacco is not always a choice. I know a lady who is 67 years old and has tried everything short of having herself transported to a deserted island.
She is currently breathing oxygen and still smoking - and she wants to quit but has failed every attempt. I might add that she comes from a long line of smokers. Her children and her grandchildren smoke.
I don’t believe our children deserve this legacy…
