Akismet is no doubt an essential WordPress plugin. Just in case you don’t know, you can also layer the free Spam Karma 2 (SK2) plugin on top of Akismet for even more powerful protection. Using it, even on the default settings, will transform comment spam management into 99% hands off automation. Here’s the link:
