About Long Distance Friends!

best-friends.jpg My best friend Beth (who looks like Bette Midler) originally from Oregon, sent me a hand made Gobble card today! The front of the card was 3-D and featured a turkey eating tuna. The inside of the card was succinct as only Beth can be when using the English language! The back of the Gobble card featured her sweet Beth Hancock.

It was indeed a real treat to drop by the post office today and open a genuine Beth Kytola card! Best friend’s rock as only best friends can do. This afternoon I drove to Deering, NH to take pictures of an antique stove that I am trying to sell on E-bay and thought about how much Beth would have loved to adopt this particular stove. If I didn’t have to sell it I would have found a way to transport it to Washington State!

Beth was originally from Oregon and currently resides in the Netherlands between Pomeroy and Dayton in Washington State. Pomeroy has a population close to 1500 with a median age of 44.2 years where you can still get a decent one-bedroom apartment for $300.00 a month. Dayton boasts a population close to 2700 with a median age of 40.4 years where you can rent a decent apartment for $400.00 a month. So what does all this have to do with my best friend Beth?

Beth and I were once single parents struggling in Oregon to raise our kids alone. She had one child and I had three. She was a dead ringer for Bette Midler where I was complimentary as a Molly Ringwald look alike. Together we were nothing short of dynamite!

Life was not easy back then but we had a grand sense of humor and a strong friendship that would never waver. We have always been there for each other giving strength where support is due. We held each other up through each other’s breakups and we drank our coffee and commiserated where comfort was due. We became strong women during the time when the Oregon judicial system supported deadbeat dads by not pursuing them.

The years and conversations shared between us are confidential as the pain and the abrasiveness of years could only add a bond that could survive a lifetime. Other long distance friends may fall by the wayside during my lifetime because they lack stamina, truth, and backbone. Beth never did. Until the day she dies I will always be able, to say “hey Beth I need you” and I will hear her say “what the hell is the matter with you now?”

Beth quit smoking on January 23, 2005. I am so very proud of her!
